GT Race Series 2021
The brief:
McLaren asked INP Media to produce a series of films following their GT3 customer race series around the world. The series would travel to a number of GP race circuits as the competitors raced each other for the championship. McLaren required a highlights film of every race weekend that would capture the excitement and camaraderie of the series plus the addition of a series highlights film at the very end of the championship.
Our challenge:
With a limited budget we had to work out how to cover a whole race circuit with minimal cameras and still make the highlights a true reflection of the dynamic and exciting racing that took place at every race.
We also needed to tell a story of the competitors, the friendships and rivalries and the good natured camaraderie that these races created.
Our solution:
Preparation was key for coverage so before each race we researched the circuit looking at the best corners and placements for limited cameras. We plotted our camera plans and designated crew where we felt we would get the best shots.
We also used our award-winning drone crew to cover sections of the circuits we were unable to cover giving us multiple shots.
Finally we used on board cameras which made sure we could show the drama inside the car, any close calls, overtakes, reactions from the drivers were also captured giving us an excellent package of material to produce a fantastic highlights of the race.
When it came to the competitors, our director made sure to talk to each competitor to make them feel relaxed about the cameras that would be roaming in the pit lanes and built trust so quick interviews and comments were never an issue which led to great content for the wider series.
